IPL Treatments

Why use IPL (Intense pulse light)?

Unlike lasers which use intense focused light, IPL is intense broadband light. IPL delivers energy to both the superficial and deep layers of the skin, sparing the epidermis (outer layers of skin) from damage, and because of this there is virtually little to no recovery time.

Laser Hair Removal

How does laser hair removal work?

A beam of light passes through the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed as heat. The heat then destroys the hair follicle and alters the hairs ability to reproduce. As body hair grows in different phases, with active growth only 20–30 percent at any given time, it is necessary to repeat treatments to ensure effectiveness. Hair should fall out a week post treatment. With each treatment, significantly less hair grows back, resulting in hair reduction. A minimum of five to six treatments are needed to see most hair reduction, but varies for each individual. Lasers only treat hair in its active growth phase. Maintenance is sometimes required. At Yarrow Bay Plastic Surgery only experienced, licensed, professionals operate our equipment.

Photofacials/Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

What conditions can be treated?

If you suffer from sun damage, or other environmental damage, Photofacials work exceptionally well at removing discoloration, vascular irregularities, improving skin texture and tone while providing a slight tightening effect to the skin. Brown spots from sun damage and aging, red blotching from spider vessels or rosacea, and rough porous skin texture will improve over a series of treatments. Photofacials achieve visible improvement with little discomfort. A typical series may include five sessions, spaced three to four weeks apart. For vascular areas such as spider veins and broken capillaries, a more aggressive approach may be determined.

Pigmented Lesions (dark spots/sunspots)

These lesions are flat tan, brown or darker areas typically from sun exposure. As we age an increased number of spots appear most commonly on the hands, arms, face and chest. With IPL treatments brown spots and freckles temporarily become darker before they lighten. Particularly sensitive areas may crust and flake first but as the skin has shed, discoloration and textural irregularities will resolve removing discoloration and textural irregularities, resulting in the appearance of healthier, firmer more vibrant even toned skin. Years of sun bathing and exposure to the natural elements can be removed after little to no down time.

Vascular Lesions (red/purple spots)

Vascular lesions on the face and body develop from a number of causes. These dilated capillaries are often provoked by sun exposure, trauma to the skin, hormonal changes and heredity. The laser aims carefully controlled pulses of narrow wavelength light at the damaged veins without affecting the surrounding skin tissue. The veins absorb the light and heat up, then collapse and eventually close. They are gradually reabsorbed by the body, leading to their disappearance.

Spider Veins (face/body)

Spider veins (also called telangiectasias) are small blood vessels (veins) at or near the skins surface. The veins are superficial in nature meaning they are not required for healthy blood flow to the skins tissue.
